The origin as we know it....
We all know about the origin of the universe. Right?
Well here's a refresher:-
In sciencey complicated terms the Big Bang theory is the
prevailing cosmological description of the development of the universe.
According to estimation of this theory, space and time emerged together
13.799±0.021 billion years ago and the energy and matter initially present have
become less dense as the universe expanded.
Let's simplify that a bit:-
Long Long ago (about 13.7 billion years to be precise) there was nothing. (That was a bit anti-climatic) When there was just nothing and nowhere, a single spark of hope for life appeared in the form of a random fluctuation in the completely dull and empty void. Then, all of a sudden, A whole universe exploded out of that single cosmic spark. This phenomenon is called the big bang and is the reason of the existence of our universe.
Or is it?
Many astronomers and scientists refused to believe that we were the result of a cosmic fluke, and peiced together the pieces and evidence in a different way.
Let's see some of the other theories:-
➼ Eternal
Inflation theory
After
the Big Bang, the universe expanded rapidly during a brief period called Inflation. The Eternal Inflation theory proposes that the inflation never stopped,
and has been going on for an infinite length of time. Somewhere, even now, new
universes are coming into existence in a vast complex called the multiverse.
Those many universes could have different physical laws.
➼ The Big Bounce
The
Oscillating model of the universe involved an endless series of Big Bangs,
followed by Big Crunches that restarted the cycle, endlessly. Hence forming the Big Bounce. This is a interesting model of the universe as it predicts not only the beginning but also the ending. The big crunch is the theory that prdicts that the universe, like a giant rubber band, will stretch as much as it can and will eventually rebound and reverse the process of the big bang and will crush all the contents of the universe back into a singular point. The modern version of this model also involves colliding "branes" (a "membrane" within a higher-dimensional volume called the "bulk").
➼ The Steady State Universe
One
alternative theory worth mentioning is the Steady State universe. An early rival to the Big Bang
theory, Steady State posits continuous creation of matter throughout the
universe to explain its apparent expansion. This type of universe would be
infinite, with no beginning or end. However, a mountain of evidence found since
the mid-1960s indicates that this theory is not correct.
Even though we have a lot of theories on the origin of the universe Implications
found in quantum gravity and string theory tantalizingly suggest a universe
that is in reality nothing like how it appears to human observers. It may
actually be a flat hologram projected onto the surface of a sphere, for
example. Or it could be a completely digital simulation running in a vast
computer. so in truth we may never know the complete truth.
